Faces,

I know its been awhile but I have just had the meal that has cleared my writer’s block.  Kyle and I went to Beaver’s yesterday (Washington and Taylor) and just happened to stumble upon their brunch.  It’s our usual hang out for Carolina style BBQ and amazing random drinks (i.e. the “Forecast” - Habanero-infused Monopolowa Vodka, Cucumber, Kaffir Lime, Lemon).  But Faces, let me tell you that there was nothing ordinary about our usual hangout yesterday. I submit for your facial consideration the extraordinary visit which occurred this Sunday

To start, Bloody’s.  I ordered the Beaver Mary which was your typical Bloody Mary except made with wasabi.  Good, nice twist.  However, it was Kyle that stole the show with his order.  He had a “Squelin’ Mary” which is made with bacon-infused vodka and served with candied bacon as the stir instead of celery.  I’ll say it again in case you blacked out for a second.  CANDIED BACON TO STIR YOUR BACON INFUSED VODKA MARY!  The “everything tastes better with bacon” theory continues to hold true.  I wonder if we should fry it?

Also available was the Whiskey D’s Smokin’ Mary which I just had to look up because I couldn’t remember all the ingredients.  Per their menu, it is “Smoked Sazarac rye whiskey and smoked oysters adulteratin’ with our Beaver Mary!!!!  Viagra in a glass!”

The meal.  Kyle had the Pit-Boss Chickwich which was smoked and shredded chicken, sloppy with BBQ sauce, cornmeal battered and fried onions and, oh yes, a fried egg on top.  I was only allowed one bite if that tells you anything.  It was as good as you are imagining.  I had the spinach and mushroom omelet.  Sound boring, read on.  This omelet was stuffed with goat cheese, spinach and wild mushrooms.  On top, there were half a dozen cornmeal battered fried shrimp.  Take all of this goodness and place it over homemade TX toast that has been smothered in black truffle cream and there you have it.  Incredibly rich, but incredibly amazing.

As much as I was enjoying my meal, I couldn’t help but scheme about coming back and trying different things.  Slated for our next brunch is the Chorizo and Gulf Shrimp SOS which Kyle’s friend from work ordered at the table across from us.  It is Texas Gulf shrimp and housemade chorizo “gravy” over housemade Texas toast with fried eggs. Also, the Beaver Pie “Crispy tortilla chips and lettuce smothered in Berkshire chorizo, black bean chili, & Redneck cheddar sauce topped with fried eggs.”

I want to go to there, again.
