District 7 is one of the most underrated under appreciated restaurants in town. It is an old Downtown lunch place. It isn't even open for dinner except on Fridays. As far as lunches go I have yet to have anything at District 7 that wasn’t great.
I usually pull op the website when I am writing one of these reviews to remind me what I have ordered, well I am looking at it now and they claim to be “new age American cuisine.” Now, I don’t even know what that means but I can tell you that is a great description of what they serve. Hamburgers... Salads... Sandwiches... Personal Pizza... Pasta... And some really great healthy choices. Pretty much just what you think of when you think of lunch only better.
Another thing I love about District 7 is they have classic dishes (Like the chicken sandwich or the pepperoni pizza) and dishes done just a little different than you would expect (Like the seared Sushi Tuna Burger with cilantro and red cabbage or my personal favorite the muffaletta burger.) While the options make District 7 intriguing The stand out is the bread. I don’t know if they buy it or make it in house but it is amazing. It has just the right crisp on the outside and just the right soft on the inside, and it isn’t over greased (which is very common for lunch places). This bread will have you thinking about it even when it isn't around, if this bread was a chick I would have a high powered telescope pointing into its bedroom What? Disregard that...
If you work in or near downtown Houston I highly recommend it. Try to go on a nice day because District 7 has an amazing porch under a great old oak tree. There is no coincidence that I am writing about this place right now as here in Houston we have seen a plethora of remarkably nice days in the past few weeks.
