St Arnold’s named this beer after the “official tall ship of texas.” Now I can’t
tell you much about tall ships or even The Elissa, except that it is old and it is
usually docked in Galveston. I can tell you that this is a very fitting name for
this beer. While this beer is a relatively new comer to the St. Arnold’s family it
has become their “flagship” beer. Everyone that knows me knows of my unapologetic,
unwavering affinity for St Arnold's products. That being said this is their best
year around offering.
This beer has almost a rust color to it and the flavor, like all IPAs, has a very strong hop bite. But this beer also has a very nice malt backing that helps make it a very complete and drinkable beer. Some people like their IPAs to knock them over with hoppiness, the Elissa won’t do that. It is very clean on the finish. And much like some of the Dogfishhead IPAs it has a bit of a citrus kick. Taste for it the next time you have a pint. This is one of the very best IPAs out there so be sure to give it a try.
As a side note if you find yourself at a bar that has the Elissa on “cask” get it!
